2020 - Our Year in Reflection

2020 will certainly go down as one of those years no one quite saw coming, and one that has tested resilience and the human spirit on so many levels.

As Lighthouse Law the efforts we have made over the years to embed innovation and agility into our working methods have held us in good stead this year. It meant that we were able to seamlessly manage the lockdown and the restrictions around work conditions, enable uninterrupted client servicing and team engagement, and ensure the same level of excellence our clients deserve. As always, we remain extremely privileged to be your legal partners and help you continue to grow your businesses.

Thank you for the incredible level of engagement we’ve had around our articles and Contracting Quick Tips. These will continue in 2021 and we’re working on an exciting new series of posts around commercial contracts and how to add more efficiency into the contract negotiation process. We’re looking forward to sharing these with you next year.

We are also very excited about the work we have been doing on legal tech over the last 12 months and the process to launching a new technology offering in 2021. More on this soon.

2020 saw us become the proud winners of the Africa Legal Awards in the two categories of “Technology, Media, and Telecoms (TMT) Team of the Year” and “Innovation”, as well as  a shortlisting for “CSR, Diversity and Economic Empowerment”. We also received listings in Best Lawyers and Chambers, where Lighthouse Law received its Chambers listing as a firm and our CEO, Justin Cornish was again listed for IT & Telecommunications Law. These are achievements that no doubt come from collaborative effort and hard work - but reflecting on 2020, we’re also grateful to have maintained stability despite a difficult year for many.

Finally, our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones, jobs, income security, homes and much else this year. The economic and human impact has been significant and we will still all need to continue to support each other and our communities in the months and years to come as the economic and human impact continues to be felt. As Lighthouse we undertake to do our part in this where we can.  2020 has tested our agility, resilience, and endurance but we’re also grateful for the simple reminder it’s given us on the importance of kindness and connection.
