The Academy

In 2018 Lighthouse Law launched The Lighthouse Academy, our training and skills development programme for law graduates in South Africa. The Lighthouse Academy is a 12-month paid internship for law graduates who satisfy BBBEE criteria. The purpose of the Academy is to use our sphere of influence as commercial lawyers to contribute meaningfully toward transformation in our society.

We do this by providing a program that combines sound training and experience in commercial law to make law graduates more marketable and better able to enter this area of the legal industry. We’re proud of how committed our lawyers are to this program, participating actively and enthusiastically in the training and ongoing mentoring of our students

Academy Training

The training takes place over 12 months and includes both academic and practical components. The academic course modules focus on commercial law, ensuring that trainees have an excellent grounding in the legal principles and knowledge that informs the type of transactions we support.

Apprenticeship

The practical component consists of apprenticeships under our lawyers, allowing trainees the opportunity to develop the practical skills essential in supporting our blue-chip South African and international clients, and gaining exposure to a full spectrum of commercial transactions, ranging from the company’s strategic alliance negotiations through to the basic contracts that cross the desk of our in-house counsel clients on a regular basis.
