Celebrating a Year of Resilience, Innovation, and Success at Lighthouse Law

It’s that time of year when many of us pause and look back. Our Strategy Day earlier this month gave us the opportunity to do just that - to reflect on the growth of Lighthouse Law, the depth and diversity of the team’s skills, our approach to innovation, our commitment to continuous improvement in our service offerings, our resilience, and the strong and supportive culture at Lighthouse that continues to anchor the team’s success. Much of this success also stems from a belief and a commitment to collective leadership, which is rooted in one of our firm values which is to ‘lead from where you are’.

The footprint of the Lighthouse Academy continues to grow steadily since its launch in 2018. We were pleased to welcome two more interns to the 2023 Lighthouse Academy program, and to see others successfully complete their internships and move from the Academy into the candidate attorney program. Those who have come through the Academy have gone on to take up positions as junior lawyers within Lighthouse, or in other organisations within the private and public sector. We continue to follow their progress with much pride.

On the delivery front, it was another busy year. Our team of 31 lawyers received over 2400 new matters from clients. We have negotiated and closed over 3000 matters so far including low, medium, and high complexity matters. We’ve been able to achieve this because of a highly skilled and dedicated team, a streamlined and sophisticated delivery model, and the effective use our legal tech solution, LightHub.

Lighthouse clients have also continued to benefit from our multiple service offerings. In addition to commercial contracting and managed legal services (MLS), our clients now also have access to an outsourced procurement and legal ops consulting offering, through our group company, Beacon Consulting. The formation of Beacon allows Lighthouse to be able to provide an end-to-end procurement, legal ops and managed legal service offering to our clients – all of which are closely interlinked. This further strengthens the role we can play as legal and business partners to our clients. This combined value proposition has been incredibly well received by existing and new clients this year.

Our team’s focus on delivering service excellence has again been recognised and celebrated this year.

  • Three of our lawyers were recognised by the Best Lawyer Awards.

  • Justin Cornish (CEO) was named as one of the Top 10 Influential IT & Telecomms lawyers in South Africa.

  • Finalists in the Africa Legal Awards for TMT Team of the Year, for Innovation; and for CSR, Diversity & Transformation.

  • Band 2 rating in Chambers for IT & Telecoms and a listing in the Chambers ALSP Guide for Contract Life Cycle Management.

  • Finalist in the Chambers Africa 2023 Awards in the category of South African Specialist Law Firm of the Year.

Importantly, we also got to celebrate and enjoy many good times together this year. From our sport enthusiasts who ran, cycled, swam, or hiked their way to glory (and pain!), to our wildlife enthusiasts who took a break from us humans to find their joy in nature, to us getting to welcome a few new babies and see some others take their first steps, to celebrating graduations, and the admission as attorneys of some of our first Academy interns. 2023 has given us much to remember and much to reflect on. It has certainly been a been a year of both hard work and good times together.

Finally, we wish to thank all our clients for your continued trust and support. The Lighthouse Team is privileged to help you to manage risk so you can focus on the success of your business. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in 2024 and wish you all the best over this festive season.
