Major Transactions

We have advised major clients on some of the largest technology and outsourcing deals completed in South Africa, Africa, the Middle East and the UK in the last ten years.

  • Assisting a large client in the FMCG sector to issue a tender requesting bids for the provision of renewable energy for its manufacturing sites in South Africa and the rest of Africa. This was part of its strategy to ensure that 100% of the electricity requirements at its manufacturing sites across Africa come from renewable sources by 2025. It was also an important initiative to enable the client to achieve its ESG goals while driving cost-savings for its African operations. Lighthouse Law’s services included drafting, negotiating and reviewing multi-year on-site and offsite power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the successful bidders, supporting negotiations with national electricity producers and supporting the procurement team’s interaction with bidders.

  • Working with a major South African bank on its full scope facilities management procurement process and contract, with a value in excess of R5 billion.

  • Working with a highly successful South African pharmaceutical company on the transformation of its global network environment to SD-WAN technology alongside the implementation of a standardised unified communications and collaboration platform.

  • Working with South Africa’s major fixed line telecommunications operator on its contract for the licence, integration and ongoing support and maintenance of its billing system, a transaction with a value in excess of R2.5 billion.

  • Assisting a travel company in the UK to consolidate its IT infrastructure globally by outsourcing its network and telephony service requirements. The agreement with the outsourced supplier was terminated and the client embarked on an updated strategy to enter separate contracts with the individual suppliers of its network and telephony service requirements. Lighthouse Law drafted and negotiated the agreements with the individual suppliers to implement the new strategy.

  • Assisting the same UK travel company to enter into a strategic alliance to provide (amongst other things) access for the client’s consumers to over 60,000 more hotels for its city and domestic holiday businesses and power the client’s primary websites, contact centres, stores and distribution to affiliated travel agents by the strategic partner’s platform for various types of travel bookings. Lighthouse drafted and negotiated the agreements with the strategic partner and provided strategic advice and project management services during the roll-out and implementation of the alliance.

  • Assisting a large South African food and packaged goods company to run a multi-million Rand network infrastructure deal RFP, including advising the client on the service levels and service credit mechanisms involved. Lighthouse Law led the review and negotiation of a service level agreement in relation to the provision of network infrastructure service and also led the review and negotiation of a multitude of work orders detailing the network infrastructure services, service provider obligations, client responsibilities, service levels and charges.
